Supporting Local Farmers: Poultry Season in Virginia

Seasonal eating – eating produce that’s locally in season – is the healthiest way to eat. That’s because fruits and vegetables that are grown nearby are still fresh and full of nutrients (and flavor!) when it gets to you. Plus, it’s a great way to support your local farmers and community. Did you know that eating seasonally applies to more than just the fruit and vegetables that grow around you?
Old Way Farms and Spring Creek Meadow Farms are two of the local farmers we work with to supply poultry here in Virginia. They’re currently getting their ducks in a row to gear up for the summer when they’ll be back at their peak poultry production.

Both farms are family-owned and dedicated to not just raising happy and healthy animals, but also caring for their land and protecting our local environment. That’s why at the end of winter they scale back on production a bit, to give everything a rest.

As we get into spring and the days continue to get warmer, these farmers will be busy caring for their spring chickens. So don’t be surprised if you notice a decrease in our poultry options over the next few weeks. But don’t worry! Our local farmers will be back in full swing by mid-May, just in time for grilling season. Let’s show our support for local farmers and plan on enjoying some delicious, seasonal eats together!
